REVIEW: This DVD features an all-star tribute to the careers of Buddy Holly and The Crickets but mostly honouring the amazing 30 years career of The Crickets (as it was at the time of this program). Introduced by Kris Kristofferson it highlights the music of The Crickets from the days of Buddy Holly & The Crickets to post Buddy Holly days. It features The Crickets performing three songs as they were at the time with lead singer Gordon Payne out front, Joe Mauldin on bass and Jerry Allison on drums and then continues with performances by country singer Joe Ely out front of The Crickets and continues with John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater fame, country duo Sweethearts Of The Rodeo, Brian Setzer from Stray Cats, Carl Perkins, Buddy Knox, Bobby Vee and features the two classic video clips of Buddy and The Crickets performing Peggy Sue and Oh Boy in glorious B&W. Unfortunately, Planet Song have formatted this DVD in a strange way. Most DVDs will automatically launch into the Main Menu after all legal formalities, however, in this case after all the legals the screen goes blank and you have to manually click on menu on your remote to bring up the Main Menu and click on the play button. The program then goes into the introduction by Kris and shows the highlights and then goes into the main program. A little disconcerting at first but once you get used to it you can sit back and enjoy a very good tribute to one of the legendary rock’n’roll bands. Great ****
