REVIEW: The first and only Deanna Durbin movie to be filmed in colour by “Technicolor” is further noteworthy thanks to a beautiful score, his last, by the legendary Jerome Kern with lyrics by E.Y. Harburg.
Deanna Durbin as Caroline Frost, the daughter of a wealthy East Coast senator (Ray Collins) is determined to marry US Cavalry officer Robert Latham (David Bruce) against her father’s wishes. When Latham is posted to California, Caroline is not far behind, hitching up her wagon and braving the wild, wild west – on the way encountering conmen, prospectors, bandits, Indians and a card shark (Robert Paige), who is destined to steal her heart away from the Cavalry.
Academy Award nominated for the musical score and the song “More And More”. Other musical highlights include the title song, “Cal-i-for-ni-ay”, “Elbow Room”, “Swing Your Sweetheart” and “Any Moment Now”.
