Cat. No. 2812: THE MOONEE VALLEY DRIFTERS ~ THE LONG LOST TAPES. NO LABEL. NO CAT. #
THE MOONEE VALLEY DRIFTERS HAVE BEEN AN INSTITUTION AROUND THE MELBOURNE CIRCUIT FOR NIGH ON 40 YEARS. IN 1988 THE GROUP HEADED FOR THE NOW LEGENDARY PRESTON RECORDING STUDIOS AND PUT DOWN SEVERAL TRACKS THAT WERE RELEASED ON THEIR DEBUT ALBUM “BOOGIE WOOGIE FEVER”. AS WAS THE CASE IN THOSE DAYS IF YOU DIDN’T GET THE TRACK DOWN PAT ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT THEN YOU DID IT AGAIN RESULTING IN SEVERAL TAKES OF A PARTICULAR SONG AND OF COURSE THERE WERE SEVERAL RECORDED ALSO THAT DID NOT MAKE THE DEBUT ALBUM. RECENTLY, THE GROUP (STILL HEADED BY FRONT MAN TOM FORSELL) PAID A VISIT TO THE PRESTON STUDIOS WHERE THEY DUG OUT THE OLD TAPES FROM THAT RECORDING SESSION AND I AM PLEASED TO SAY THAT THIS ALBUM IS THE RESULT OF THAT VISIT, 14 SUPERB RAW HILLBILLY AND ROCKABILLY TRACKS FROM ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR MELBOURNE BANDS WHICH INCLUDES ALTERNATE TAKES OF SONGS THAT DID MAKE THE “BOOGIE WOOGIE FEVER” ALBUM AND SEVERAL THAT DID NOT AND PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE. SO FOLKS, ENJOY THIS ROOTS MUSIC MIX OF MUSICAL MAYHEM, WHICH BY THE WAY IS NOT YOUR EVERYDAY FLANNEL SHIRTED AMERICAN BAND BUT TRUE DUDES TO THE FORM OF COWBOY CULTURE DRESSED IN HILLBILLY STYLE. SENSATIONAL PIECE OF HISTORY ******
