Cat. No. 2844: STARS ~ BOUNDARY RIDER. NO LABEL. NO CAT. #.
STARS IS A COUNTRY ROCK BLUES BAND FEATURING MICK PEALING ON VOCALS, MALCOLM EASTICK (GUITAR), GLYNN DOWDING (DRUMS), ROGER McLACHLAN (BASS) AND NICK CHARLES (ELECTRIC & ACOUSTIC GUITARS & MANDOLIN). THE BAND HAS IT'S ROOTS IN A GROUP CALLED "FLASH" FORMED IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA IN THE MID-1970s FEATURING MALCOLM, GLYNN AND ANDY DURANT WHICH SPECIALIZED IN HARD ROCK COVERS FROM "FREE" AND "DEEP PURPLE". ANDY DURANT LEFT FOR OVERSEAS SOON AFTER AND WAS REPLACED BY GRAHAM THOMPSON. BEEB BIRTLES (EX ZOOT, MISSISSIPPI, LITTLE RIVER BAND) RECOMMENDED THE BAND TO MICHAEL GUDINSKI OF MUSHROOM RECORDS. A DEAL WAS SIGNED AND THE BAND, BY THIS TIME KNOWN AS "STARS", WENT ON TO RECORD TWO SINGLES, "QUICK ON THE DRAW" AND "WINNING HAND".
REALIZING THAT THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE ENOUGH MATERIAL AND TIME TO PUT TOGETHER AN ALBUM ANDY, WHO HAD RETURNED FROM OVERSEAS WITH A HANDFUL OF SELF-PENNED SONGS, REJOINED THE GROUP AND GRAHAM THOMPSON LEFT AND WAS REPLACED BY ROGER McLACHLAN (EX LITTLE RIVER BAND). AN ALBUM TITLED "PARADISE" WAS RELEASED AND ACHIEVED REASONABLE SALES. THE BAND RELEASED A SECOND ALBUM "LAND OF FORTUNE" WHICH FAILED TO SELL AND AFTER MONTHS OF CONSTANT TOURING AND WITH ANDY'S HEALTH FAILING THE GROUP DISBANDED. THIS NEWLY REFORMED "STARS" IS IN CONSTANT DEMAND AND IS TOURING AUSTRALIA. THIS IS THEIR FIRST ALBUM FEATURING THE ABOVE NAMED MUSICIANS AND FEATURES SONGS WRITTEN BY MICK AND FELLOW BAND MEMBER NICK CHARLES. THE ALBUM IS NOT YOUR RUN OF THE MILL BLUES ALBUM, IT IS MORE SLANTED TOWARDS ROCK WITH A TOUCH OF COUNTRY ROCK AND BLUES BUT IT DOES HAVE SOME GREAT ROCKIN' NUMBERS AND IF YOU LIKE YOUR BLUES ROCKED UP A BIT THEN THIS MIGHT JUST BE THE ALBUM FOR YOU. DEFINITELY NOT FOR THOSE QUIETER MOMENTS *****
