Cat. No. BCD 16894: SHEB WOOLEY ~ WHITE LIGHTNIN'. BEAR FAMILY BCD 16894. (IMPORT)
SHEB WOOLEY HAILS FROM A SMALL FARMING COMMUNITY CALLED ERICK ON ROUTE 66 BETWEEN OKLAHOMA CITY AND AMARILLO (TEXAS). THE SAME TOWN THAT ROGER MILLER HAILED FROM. IN FACT, SHEB MARRIED ROGER MILLER’S OLDER SISTER IN 1945. THROUGHOUT HIS LENGTHY CAREER, SHEB ALTERNATED BETWEEN BEING A REAL COWBOY AND ONE PLAYING ON THE BIG SCREEN, AND AS A SINGER AND SONGWRITER WITH HIT RECORDS UNDER TWO NAMES - HIS OWN, AND “BEN COLDER” FOR HIS PARODIES OF OTHER PEOPLE’S SUCCESSES.
SHEB APPEARED IN A NUMBER OF WESTERN MOVIES OVER THE YEARS MAINLY SMALL ROLES BUT HIS BIG BREAK CAME WHEN HE APPEARED IN “HIGH NOON” ALONGSIDE GARY COOPER AND GRACE KELLY. HOWEVER, HE IS BEST KNOWN FOR HIS LONG RUNNING FEATURE ROLE IN MORE THAN 100 EPISODES OF THE WESTERN TV SERIES “RAWHIDE” (CLINT EASTWOOD’S BIG BREAK) AND A NOVELTY SONG HE WROTE IN 1958 WHICH BECAME A HUGE HIT, “PURPLE PEOPLE EATER” WHICH INITIALLY HIS RECORD COMPANY WAS RELUCTANT TO RELEASE. THIS COLLECTION CONCENTRATES ON THE RECORDS HE MADE, BEGINNING IN 1945 AND CONTINUING WELL INTO THE ‘50s. TEXAS AND HOLLYWOOD RECORDINGS GREAT*****
