Cat. No. VV 1033: BUDDY HOLLY & THE CRICKETS ~ THINK IT OVER / IT'S SO EASY. MCA BH-6.
USED VINYL RECORD. PART OF A COLLECTION NOW UP FOR SALE.
BY THE TIME "THINK IT OVER" WAS RELEASED IN THE UK ON JULY 4TH 1958, THE CRICKETS WERE WELL ESTABLISHED, HAVING ENJOYED THREE SOLID HITS IN THEIR OWN RIGHT AND ANOTHER THREE WITH BUDDY HOLLY - ALL IN A LITTLE OVER NINE MONTHS. "THINK IT OVER" WAS SOMETHING OF A DEPARTURE FROM THEIR GUITAR-ORIENTATED SOUND AND THIS MAY HAVE HURT SALES, ALTHOUGH THE SINGLE STILL FARED BETTER IN THE UK THAN IN THE USA, REACHING No. 11 IN THE NME (NEW MUSICAL EXPRESS) TOP 30. THE TRACK WAS RECORDED WITH THE B SIDE "FOOLS PARADISE" JUST PRIOR TO THE CRICKET'S DEPARTURE FOR TOURS OF AUSTRALIA AND ENGLAND.
"IT'S SO EASY" WAS THE LAST CRICKETS RECORD TO FEATURE BUDDY HOLLY AS LEAD SINGER - IT ALSO MARKED TOMMY ALLSUP'S BRIEF STAY AS LEAD GUITARIST - SOUNDING REMARKABLY LIKE HOLLY HIMSELF. UNFORTUNATELY, "IT'S SO EASY" WASN'T A BIG HIT, ONLY REACHING 19 IN THE RECORD MIRROR CHARTS AND FAILING TO MAKE THE US CHARTS AT ALL. DESPITE THIS, THE SONG IS NOW REGARDED AS ONE OF HOLLY'S FINEST AND LINDA RONSTADT PROVED THE POINT - HER VERSION WAS A MAJOR HIT IN THE US IN THE '70s.
THIS RARE 7" 45 RPM RECORD WAS RELEASED IN ENGLAND IN 1984 AS PART OF BUDDY HOLLY WEEK AND FEATURES A SUPERB PORTRAIT OF HOLLY BY PETER McKENNA WHICH WAS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IN THE NATIONAL AMATEUR COMPETITION. THE RECORD IS GRADED NEAR MINT AND THE SLEEVE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH ONLY A COUPLE OF MINOR CREASE MARKS ON THE FRONT OF THE SLEEVE AND VERY MINOR RING-WEAR ON THE FLIP SIDE.
