JOHNNY BURNETTE (JOHN JOSEPH BURNETTE) TOGETHER WITH HIS BROTHER, DORSEY BURNETTE, AND A MUTUAL FRIEND, PAUL BURLISON FORMED A GROUP IN 1952 CALLED THE RHYTHM RANGERS THAT LATER BECAME THE ROCK'N'ROLL TRIO. JOHNNY SANG AND PLAYED ACOUSTIC GUITAR, DORSEY PLAYED BASS AND PAUL PLAYED LEAD GUITAR. THE BROTHERS GREW UP IN A PUBLIC HOUSING PROJECT IN THE LAUDERDALE COURTS AREA OF MEMPHIS WHICH FROM 1948 UNTIL 1954 WAS ALSO THE HOME OF GLADYS AND VERNON PRESLEY AND THEIR SON, ELVIS. FOR ECONOMIC REASONS, THE TRIO MOVED TO NEW YORK IN 1956 AND MANAGED TO GET AN AUDITION FOR TED MACK'S ORIGINAL AMATEUR HOUR. WINNING THE COMPETITION THREE TIMES IN A ROW GAINED THEM A PLACE IN THE FINALS AND A RECORDING CONTRACT WITH CORAL RECORDS.

PROMOTIONAL APPEARANCES WERE ARRANGED ON DICK CLARK'S AMERICAN BANDSTAND, STEVE ALLEN'S TONIGHT SHOW AND PERRY COMO'S KRAFT MUSIC HALL TOGETHER WITH A SUMMER TOUR WITH CARL PERKINS AND GENE VINCENT. ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 9, 1956 THEY APPEARED AS FINALISTS ON THE ORIGINAL AMATEUR HOUR AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN SINGING 'HOUND DOG'. THE GROUP ALSO MADE AN APPEARANCE IN THE ROCK'N'ROLL MOVIE 'ROCK. ROCK. ROCK' WITH ALAN FREED. BY THIS TIME DORSEY HAD LEFT THE GROUP FOLLOWING DISPUTES OVER THEIR MANAGER HENRY JEROME REFERRING TO THEM AS JOHNNY BURNETTE AND THE ROCK AND ROLL TRIO ON RECORDS AND LIVE APPEARANCES AND HE HAD BEEN REPLACED BY JOHNNY BLACK, BROTHER OF ELVIS' BASS PLAYER BILL BLACK.

DESPITE THE FILM APPEARANCE AND SIX SINGLE RELEASES AND ONE LP RELEASE THE GROUP FAILED TO ACHIEVE ANY CHART SUCCESS AND DISBANDED IN 1957. JOHNNY LATER WENT ON TO ACHIEVE REASONABLE SUCCESS AS A SOLO ARTIST UNTIL HIS DEATH IN A MOTOR BOAT ACCIDENT IN 1964 WHILST DORSEY ONLY ACHIEVED VERY LITTLE SUCCESS UNTIL HE CHANGED ALLEGIANCE  IN THE 1970s AND DIRECTED HIS TALENTS IN THE COUNTRY MUSIC FIELD. WHILST, THE ROCK AND ROLL TRIO ACHIEVED VERY LITTLE SUCCESS IN THEIR HEYDAY THEIR RECORDINGS TODAY ARE REGARDED AS SOME OF THE WILDEST ROCKABILLY RECORDINGS TO COME OUT OF THE 1950s AND ARE HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER BY ROCKABILLY AFICIONADOS.

THIS ENGLISH PRESSING ON THE CORAL LABEL WAS RELEASED IN THE 1970s AND CONTAINS 12 SUPERB ROCKABILLY CLASSICS, NEARLY HALF OF THEIR OUTPUT ON CORAL. THE SLEEVE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH ALMOST NO SIGNS OF WEAR AND THE RECORD IS IN VIRTUALLY MINT CONDITION.

TRACK LISTING: Side 1: Honey Hush / Lonesome Train (On A Lonesome Track) / Sweet Love On My Mind / Rock Billy Boogie / Lonesome Tears In My Eyes / All By Myself. Side 2: The Train Kept A Rollin' / I Just Found Out / Your Baby Blue Eyes / Chains Of Love / I Love You So / Drinking Wine, Spo-Dee-O-Dee, Drinking Wine.
