JERRY LEE LEWIS (NICKNAMED "THE KILLER") WAS DESCRIBED AS ROCK'N'ROLL'S FIRST GREAT WILD MAN. A PIONEER OF ROCK'N'ROLL AND ROCKABILLY MUSIC, JERRY LEE MADE HIS FIRST RECORDINGS "DON'T STAY AWAY (TILL LOVE GROWS COLD)" B/W "JERRY'S BOOGIE" (A SELF COMPOSED INSTRUMENTAL) IN 1952 AT COSIMO MATASSA'S J&M STUDIO IN NEW ORLEANS AND EARLY RECORDINGS IN 1956 AT SUN RECORDS IN MEMPHIS. HIS FIRST RECORD FOR SUN "CRAZY ARMS" SOLD OVER 300,000 COPIES IN THE SOUTHERN UNITED STATES, BUT IT WAS HIS 1957 HIT "WHOLE SHAKIN' GOIN' ON" THAT SHOT JERRY LEE TO WORLDWIDE FAME. HE FOLLOWED THIS WITH THE MAJOR HITS "GREAT BALLS OF FIRE", "BREATHLESS" AND "HIGH SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL". HIS ROCK'N'ROLL CAREER FALTERED IN THE WAKE OF HIS MARRIAGE TO MYRA GALE BROWN, HIS 13-YEAR-OLD FIRST COUSIN ONCE REMOVED. HIS POPULARITY QUICKLY ERODED FOLLOWING THE SCANDAL AND WITH FEW EXCEPTIONS, SUCH AS A COVER OF RAY CHARLES' "WHAT'D I SAY", HE DID NOT HAVE MUCH CHART SUCCESS IN THE EARLY 1960s. IN 1968 JERRY LEE MADE A TRANSITION INTO COUNTRY MUSIC AND A WHOLE NEW CAREER OPENED UP FOR HIM WITH HIM SCORING MANY TOP TEN HITS WITH HIS RENDITIONS OF MANY COUNTRY SONGS.

THIS ALBUM IS A 1989 COLLABORATION REISSUE BETWEEN SUN RECORDS AND WARNER BROS SUBSIDIARY, RHINO, OF JERRY'S FIRST SUN RECORDS ALBUM. BOTH THE SLEEVE AND THE RECORD ARE VIRTUALLY IN MINT CONDITION. THE ONLY ABERRATION IS A SMALL STAIN ON THE SIDE 1 LABEL WHERE SOMETHING, PROBABLY A STICKER OF SOME, SORT HAS BEEN REMOVED BUT, OF COURSE, THIS DOES IN NO WAY EFFECT THE PLAYING OF THE RECORD.

TRACK LISTING: Side 1: Don't Be Cruel / Goodnight Irene / Put Me Down / It All Depends / Ubangi Stomp / Crazy Arms / Jambalaya. Side 2: Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On / Fools Like Me / High School Confidential / When The Saints Go Marching In / Matchbox / It'll Be Me.
