Cat. No. VV 1121: LULA REED ~ I'M GONE, YES I'M GONE. SING 1157.
USED VINYL RECORD. PART OF A COLLECTION NOW UP FOR SALE.
LULA REED (BORN LULA MARIETTA McCLELLAND) WAS A RHYTHM AND BLUES AND GOSPEL SINGER WHO RECORDED IN THE 1950s AND 1960s. SHE HAD TWO HITS IN 1952 AS A VOCALIST WITH PIANIST AND BANDLEADER SONNY THOMPSON AND LATER RECORDED WITH GUITARIST FREDDY KING. LULA WAS OCCASIONALLY CREDITED AS LULU REED.
WHAT LITTLE IS KNOWN OF LULA'S PROFESSIONAL LIFE FOLLOWS THE COURSE OF HER ASSOCIATION WITH SONNY THOMPSON. WITH SONNNY'S ASSISTANCE, LULA MADE ABOUT A DOZEN RECORDS FOR THE KING LABEL IN THE EARLY TO MID-1950s. SHE LATER MOVED FROM THE KING LABEL TO RECORD BRIEFLY FOR THE CHESS BROTHERS AROUND 1957. THIS ALBUM BRINGS TOGETHER SOME EXCEPTIONALLY FINE MUSIC. LULA WAS FORTUNATE TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH COMPOSERS AS TALENTED AS TITUS TURNER, SONNY THOMPSON, OR KING A&R MAN HENRY GLOVER. MANY OF THE SONGS LULA RECORDED WERE STANDOUTS IN A FIELD THAT OFTEN UNLEASHED THROWAWAY MATERIAL ON ITS CONSUMERS. THE ALBUM IS A FINE EXAMPLE OF 1950s AND 1960s R&B.
THIS ALBUM IS VIRTUALLY MINT IN BOTH SLEEVE AND RECORD. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNS OF WEAR OR SOILING.
