Cat. No. VV 1123: DALE HAWKINS ~ BEST OF DALE HAWKINS. VOL. 1. CHECKER 6467 301
USED VINYL RECORD. PART OF A COLLECTION NOW UP FOR SALE.
DALE HAWKINS (DELMAR ALLEN HAWKINS) WAS A PIONEER OF AMERICAN ROCK'N'ROLL / ROCKABILLY. HE WAS ALSO A TALENTED SONG-WRITER AND RHYTHM GUITARIST AND WAS OFTEN CALLED THE ARCHITECT OF SWAMP ROCK BOOGIE , A STYLE WHICH WAS LATER ADOPTED BY CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL WITH A GREAT DEAL OF SUCCESS.
DALE BEGAN RECORDING IN 1956. IN 1957, HE WAS PLAYING AT SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA CLUBS AND ALTHOUGH HIS MUSIC WAS INFLUENCED BY THE NEW ROCK'N'ROLL STYLE OF ELVIS PRESLEY, AND THE GUITAR SOUNDS OF SCOTTY MOORE, DALE BLENDED THAT WITH THE UNIQUELY HEAVY BLUES SOUND OF BLACK LOUISIANA ARTISTS FOR HIS 1958 RECORDING OF HIS SWAMP-ROCK CLASSIC, "SUZIE Q". FELLOW LOUISIANA GUITARIST JAMES BURTON PROVIDED THE SIGNATURE RIFF AND SOLO. CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL'S VERSION OF THE SONG ON THEIR 1968 DEBUT ALBUM HELPED LAUNCH THEIR CAREER AND TODAY IT IS PROBABLY THE BEST-KNOWN VERSION. DALE CONTINUED TO RECORD FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS AND ENJOYED A SUCCESSFUL CAREER BUT NEVER MATCHED THE SUCCESS OF "SUZIE Q" ALTHOUGH HE DID RECORD SOME MIGHTY FINE RECORDINGS THE BEST OF WHICH ARE CONTAINED ON THIS ALBUM. DALE DIED FROM COLON CANCER ON FEBRUARY 13, 2010.
THIS ALBUM IS AN ENGLISH RELEASE WITH NO RELEASE DATE AND CONTAINS 13 OF DALE HAWKINS BEST KNOWN TRACKS. THE SLEEVE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH ONLY VERY, VERY MINOR SIGNS OF WEAR AND IS PREDOMINANTLY BLACK AND OFF-WHITE ALTHOUGH THE SCAN SHOWS IT AS A HEAVY CREAM COLOUR. THE RECORD IS IN VIRTUALLY MINT CONDITION.
