Cat. No. VV 1124: ANDY ANDERSON ~ ONE MAN'S ROCK AND ROLL. UNION PACIFIC UP006.
USED VINYL RECORD. PART OF A COLLECTION NOW UP FOR SALE.
THE STORY OF ANDY ANDERSON IS FAR TOO INVOLVED TO GO INTO DETAIL HERE, HOWEVER, WE CAN GIVE YOU LITTLE BACKGROUND ON HIS CAREER. ANDY ANDERSON WAS BORN AND RAISED ON THE KING & ANDERSON PLANTATION NEAR CLARKSDALE, MISSISSIPPI. HE DEVELOPED AN INTEREST IN MUSIC WHEN HE WAS AROUND TEN YEARS OF AGE. EVERY SATURDAY EVERYONE WITHIN A 25 MILE RADIUS OF THE PLANTATION WOULD DESCEND ON THE PLANTATION GENERAL STORE, COLLECT THEIR WAGES, PAY BILLS, SHOP, GOSSIP AND SING AND DANCE. MUSIC WAS PROVIDED BY ANYONE OF A GROUP OF BLACK SOUL/RHYTHM AND BLUES MUSICIANS WHO TRAVELLED AROUND FROM PLANTATION TO PLANTATION AND ANDY WAS INTRODUCED TO THE LIKES OF MISSISSIPPI SLIM, B.B. KING, HOWLIN' WOLF, JOHN LEE HOOKER OR ELMORE JAMES.
ANDY LATER TOOK AN INTEREST IN COUNTRY MUSIC AND, ENCOURAGED BY HIS MOTHER WHO WROTE MUSIC, PLAYED PIANO AND SANG BUT NEVER PROFESSIONALLY, HE SUBSEQUENTLY BOUGHT A GUITAR ON A TRIP TO MEMPHIS AND SPENT MANY HOURS LEARNING TO PLAY. WITH THE EMERGENCE OF ROCK'N'ROLL AND ROCKABILLY ANDY CHANGED DIRECTION AND TOGETHER WITH HIS COUSIN AND SOME FRIENDS FORMED A GROUP CALLED THE "ROLLING STONES" (NOT THE BRITISH GROUP THAT EMERGED IN THE EARLY 1960s). THE GROUP ENDED UP ON THE DOORSTEP OF SUN RECORDS AND RECORDED AN ALBUM WHICH WAS NEVER RELEASED AT THE TIME DUE TO FINANCIAL RESTRAINTS SUN RECORDS WAS SUFFERING. THE GROUP LATER WAS SIGNED TO FELSTEAD RECORDS A ROCK'N'ROLL DIVISION OF LONDON RECORDS WHERE THE FIRST OF THE TRACKS ON THIS ALBUM WERE RECORDED. THE OPENING TRACK "JOHNNY VALENTINE" ALONG WITH "TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH" ARE PROBABLY ANDY'S BEST KNOWN TRACKS. ALTOGETHER A NICE PIECE OF ROCK'N'ROLL / ROCKABILLY HISTORY.
THIS ALBUM IS A 1988 RELEASE ON THE BRITISH BASED UNION PACIFIC LABEL AND FEATURES ALL TRACKS RECORDED BY THE "ROLLING STONES" AND TRACKS BY ANDY AND HIS LATER GROUP THE "DAWNBREAKERS". THE ALBUM SLEEVE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH ALMOST NO SIGNS OF WEAR AND THE RECORD IS IN NEAR MINT CONDITION.
