Cat. No. VV 1135: JOHNNY OLENN ~ JUST ROLLIN' WITH JOHNNY OLENN. ACE RECORDS CH48.
USED VINYL RECORD. PART OF A COLLECTION NOW UP FOR SALE.
JOHNNY OLENN WAS BORN IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS IN 1936. JOHNNY ATTENDED HIGH SCHOOL AND WORKED NIGHTS IN WESTERN BANDS UNTIL 1954. WITH THE ADVENT OF ROCK'N'ROLL MUSIC HE CHANGED ALLEGIANCE AND FORMED HIS OWN BAND 'THE JOKERS' AND PERFORMED ROCK'N'ROLL MUSIC SIMILAR TO BILL HALEY AND HIS COMETS BUT NOT WITH THE SAME SUCCESS. IN 1955, THE BAND TOOK AN ENGAGEMENT AT THE TIFFANY LOUNGE IN SAN ANTONIO AND PLAYED THERE FOR SIX MONTHS UNTIL BEING "DISCOVERED" BY MAJOR RIDDLE, CO-OWNER OF THE DUNES HOTEL IN LAS VEGAS WHICH LED TO AN ENGAGEMENT THERE. THE BAND'S FOUR WEEK ENGAGEMENT LASTED TWENTY-TWO AT WHICH TIME THEY WERE FEATURED IN THE 20TH CENTURY-FOX FILM "THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT" WHERE JOHNNY PLAYED HIMSELF. THEIR PHENOMENAL SUCCESS IN THE MOVIE LED TO A RECORDING CONTACT WITH LIBERTY RECORDS AND IS THE BASIS OF THIS ALBUM RELEASE. NOT MUCH MORE INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON JOHNNY AND THE BAND'S LATER CAREER. IT SEEMS THEY JUST VANISHED INTO OBLIVION.
THIS RELEASE BY RESPECTED REISSUE COMPANY ACE RECORDS IS AN EXACT REPLICA OF JOHNNY'S ORIGINAL 1957 RELEASE FOR LIBERTY RECORDS EVEN DOWN TO THE LINER NOTES. THE SLEEVE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND IS GRADED AS BORDERING ON MINT CONDITION (ONCE AGAIN THE YELLOWING ON THE REAR OF THE SLEEVE IS A RESULT OF THE SCANNING AND IS NOT APPARENT ON THE SLEEVE ITSELF). THE RECORD AS WELL IS ALSO GRADED AS NEAR MINT. A NICE LITTLE PIECE OF ROCK'N'ROLL HISTORY FOR THE COLLECTOR.
TRACK LISTING: Side 1 - Candy Kisses / My Idea Of Love / Pipeliner's Blues / Sally Let Your Bangs Hang Down / Twenty-Four Hours / Someday. Side 2 - When My Dream Boat Comes Home / The Gypsy / I Ain't Gonna Cry no More / Oh! What A Dream / Because You Love Me / Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.
