Cat. No. VV 1140: OL' 55 ~ TAKE IT GREASY. MUSHROOM / FESTIVAL L 35815.
USED VINYL RECORD. PART OF A COLLECTION NOW UP FOR SALE.
OL 55' WAS FORMED IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA IN 1975. THE BAND HAD ITS ROOTS IN A BAND CALLED "FANIS", A PART-TIME COVERS BAND. AFTER FANIS WAS INTRODUCED TO AUSTRALIAN MUSIC GURU GLENN A. BAKER HE TOOK OVER MANAGEMENT OF THE BAND, CHANGED THE NAME TO OL 55' AND RECRUITED FRANKIE J. HOLDEN (PETER BRIAN) AS FRONT MAN FOR THE BAND AND LATER ADDED SAXOPHINIST WILBUR WILDE (NICK AITKEN EX RAY BROWN & THE WHISPERS). THE BAND SPECIALIZED IN RETRO 1950s ERA ROCK'N'ROLL. THIS, THEIR DEBUT ALBUM, WAS RELEASED IN MAY, 1976 AND PEAKED AT #3 ON THE AUSTRALIAN MUSIC CHARTS. THE BAND SCORED FIVE TOP 20 HITS ON THE KENT MUSIC REPORT SINGLES CHARTS. AFTER SEVERAL CHANGES TO THE LINE-UP THE GROUP DISBANDED IN 1983. A NICE PIECE OF AUSTRALIAN MUSIC FROM THE 1970s AND A GREAT PARTY ALBUM.
THE SLEEVE IS A GATEFOLD (RARE FOR AUSTRALIAN RELEASES IN THE 1970s) AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH ONLY SOME MINOR RING WEAR ON THE REAR OF THE SLEEVE. THE RECORD HAS A COUPLE OF SCRATCHES ON SIDE TWO WHICH LOOK A LITTLE UGLY, HOWEVER, RECORD HAS BEEN PLAYED AND APART FROM A CLICK WHEN THE STYLUS PASSES OVER THE SCRATCH IT'S NO WORSE SO THAN LISTENING TO AN OLD 78 OR 45 AND FOR THAT REASON THE PRICE HAS BEEN MARKED DOWN. THE STYLUS DOES NOT SKIP. SIDE ONE PLAYS WELL.
TRACK LISTING: Side 1 - Intro: Summertime, Summertime / Iridescent Pink Sock Blues / I Wonder Why? / Almost Grown / Think It Over / Get A Job / Doin' fine / Only Sixteen. Side 2 - This Little Girl / On The Prowl / New Girl In School / Skateboard Thrills / Looking For An Echo / Goodnight Sweetheart / Outro: School Days.
