THE CAPITOLS (ORIGINALLY CALLED THE THREE CAPS) WERE FORMED IN DETROIT IN THE EARLY '60s. THEIR FIRST SINGLE “DOG AND CAT” ON THE KAREN LABEL FAILED TO CONNECT AND THE GROUP BROKE UP FOR A SHORT TIME. IN 1966 THEY RELEASED “COOL JERK” WHICH WAS ISSUED ON THE KAREN LABEL BUT DISTRIBUTED BY ATCO. THE SONG WAS AN IMMEDIATE SUCCESS GOING TOP 10 ON BOTH THE R&B AND POP CHARTS. THE GROUP RELEASED SEVERAL OTHER SINGLES WHICH CHARTED WELL. THEY DISBANDED IN 1969.
