ARTHUR BLANCH WAS AN AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY SINGER AND SONGWRITER. BORN IN 1928, ARTHUR BEGAN ENTERING TALENT QUESTS IN 1949 AND WON ‘AUSTRALIA’S AMATEUR HOUR’ WHICH LED TO ARTHUR SIGNING HIS FIRST RECORDING CONTRACT. IN 1962, THE BLANCH FAMILY, ARTHUR, WIFE BERICE AND DAUGHTER, JEWEL WERE SIGNED TO THE W&G LABEL IN MELBOURNE. THE THREE FAMILY MEMBERS BECOMING KNOWN FOR RECORDING COLLABORATIONS AND TOURING TOGETHER RELOCATED TO THE UNITED STATES IN 1968 WHERE THEY ESTABLISHED THEMSELVES AS PERFORMERS WHICH INCLUDED APPEARANCES ON THE GRAND OLE OPRY.
ARTHUR ACHIEVED SUCCESS IN AMERICA DURING THE LATE 1970s WITH HIS SONGS “THE LITTLE MAN’S GOT THE BIGGEST SMILE” AND “MAYBE I’LL CRY OVER YOU” BOTH ENTERING BILLBOARD’S HOT COUNTRY SONGS. THE FAMILY MOVED BACK TO AUSTRALIA IN 1980 WHERE THEY BASED THEMSELVES IN QUEENSLAND. IN THE SUCCEEDING YEARS ARTHUR WON NUMEROUS AWARDS INCLUDING TWO GOLDEN GUITARS FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR IN 1982 AND 1983 AND TWO GOLDEN GUITARS FOR MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR IN 1984 AND 1985. IN 2001 ARTHUR WAS INDUCTED INTO THE AUSTRALIAN ROLL OF RENOWN. IN 2007 HE WAS AWARDED THE TAMWORTH SONGWRITER’S ASSOCIATION AWARD. ARTHUR PASSED AWAY ON JULY 26, 2023.
