HERE WE HAVE SOMETHING FOR FANS OF THE BLUES, A 1990 RELEASE BY BLUES ENCORE OF A FINE OVERVIEW OF THE MUSIC OF BIG JOE TURNER OFTEN REFERRED TO AS "THE BOSS OF THE BLUES" AND ALSO REFERRED TO AS THE "LAST OF THE BLUES SHOUTERS" A TERM COINED FROM THE FACT THAT MANY OF THE MUSIC VENUES WHERE BLUES MUSIC WAS PERFORMED PRIOR TO WW11 HAD VERY LITTLE IN THE WAY OF AUDIO SYSTEMS OR NONE AT ALL SO THE ARTIST HAD TO SING VERY LOUDLY OR AT TIMES SHOUT TO BE HEARD ABOVE THE BAND.

BIG JOE'S PROFESSIONAL SINGING CAREER STARTED N 1925 WHEN HE WAS INTRODUCED TO "BOOGIE WOOGIE" PIANIST PETE JOHNSON. THEIR SUCCESS, MAINLY DUE TO STIRING VERSIONS OF "ROLL 'EM PETE" PROVED THAT ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING AND SUCCESSFUL DUOS OF THAT TIME HAD COME INTO BEING. OVER THE YEARS BIG JOE'S STAR CONTINUED TO SHINE WITH TRIUMPH AFTER TRIUMPH AS HIS MUSIC CONTINUED TO EVOLVE WITH THE TRENDS OF THE DAY AND IN PARTICULAR DURING THE 1950s WHEN ROCK'N'ROLL WAS IN ITS INFANCY. JOE WAS SIGNED TO ATLANTIC RECORDS IN 1951 AND SUBSEQUENTLY RECORDED SOME OF THE ABSOLUTE CLASSICS OF THE ROCK'N'ROLL ERA INCLUDING WHAT IS NOW REGARDED AS A ROCK'N'ROLL ANTHEM, "SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL".

WHILST THIS ALBUM DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY OF THOSE ROCK'N'ROLL CLASSICS IT DOES GIVE A FINE OVERVIEW OF BIG JOE'S CAREER UP UNTIL THAT TIME. BOTH THE SLEEVE AND RECORD ARE IN VIRTUALLY MINT CONDITION WITH BARELY A SIGN OF WEAR.

TRACK LISTING: Side 1 - Roll 'Em Pete / Cherry Red / Morning Glories / How Long Blues / Midnight Cannonball / Married Woman / Hollywood Red / Miss Brown Blues. Side 2 - Piney Brown Blues / Ti-Ri-Lee / In The Evening / (We're Gonna) Jump For Joy / TV Mama / Poor Lover's Blues / Sweet Sixteen / The Chill Is On
